Does Psychodynamic treatment work?

Empirical studies have shown that psychodynamic therapies have a long term positive effect on a variety of different psychiatric diagnoses, even in cases of severe pathology, with effects lasting long after therapy ended.  Dr. Jonathan Shedler of Colorado School of Medicine, came to this conclusion in a comprehensive review of the empirical evidence from 2010. In his review he refers to a number of well done studies and meta studies, and found overall effectiveness on symptom reduction as well as personality change. Psychodynamic psychotherapy has reached the point where it can be called an empirically proven, effective method.
